NRS Launches E-invoicing for Medium-Sized Businesses

The Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) is set to transform tax administration for medium-sized businesses with the rollout of its E-Invoicing & Electronic Fiscal System (EFS), also known as the Merchant Buyer Solution (MBS).

Businesses with annual turnover between N1 billion and N5 billion will participate in a structured timeline beginning with Stakeholder Engagement in January 2026, a Pilot Rollout, and a mandatory Go-Live date on July 1, 2026.

“The move to digital invoicing will drastically reduce errors, lost receipts, and manual accounting headaches,” stakeholders said, noting that even smaller Emerging Taxpayers will join the system by July 2027.

The NRS said the initiative aims to enhance tax administration and improve transparency across all levels of business.

Following implementation, businesses will undergo a Post Go-Live Review in late 2026, with Compliance Enforcement scheduled for early 2027.

Through the digital platform, taxpayers can register, issue, and track invoices electronically, reducing paperwork while ensuring every transaction is accounted for.

Analysts say the adoption of EFS represents a major step in modernizing Nigeria’s economy, bringing medium and small enterprises into a more transparent, efficient fiscal environment.
