Contracts for the dualisation of the 489-kilometre Obajana-Benin Highway have been terminated by the Federal Government.
The action, according to Works Minister Dave Umahi, is due to significant delays in the execution of the three sections of the road and the contractors refusal to fulfill their obligations as spelt out in Standard Conditions of Contract.
The affected contractors are Mothercat Ltd, Dantata & Sawoe Construction Ltd, and Reynolds Construction Company (RCC) Ltd.
They were awarded the contracts to handle sections II (Okene-Auchi) in Kogi/Edo State, III (Auchi-Ehor) in Edo State, and IV (Ehor-Benin) in Edo State. Already, a joint evaluation committee, comprising concerned engineers, has been set up by the ministry to conduct a joint measurement of work done by the three contractors.
“Since they (contractors) have done a level of work, the committee would measure what has been done and if it is discovered that they are owning, we will go after them to pay back our money,” a top source in the ministry told The Nation yesterday.
