Cooking Gas Prices Soar, 12.5kg Hits ₦21,000

The cost of cooking gas continues to climb sharply across Nigeria, with the average retail price for refilling a 5kg cylinder of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) rising by 7.69% month-on-month, from N7,322.49 in March 2025 to N7,885.60 in April 2025.

This is according to the latest report by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), titled “Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas) Price Watch”, released on Monday.

Larger cylinders saw even steeper increases. The average price for refilling a 12.5kg cylinder jumped by 9.82% within the same period, rising from N18,456.24 in March to N20,268.06 in April. Year-on-year data paints an even more dramatic picture.

The 5kg refill price surged by 20.92%, up from N6,521.58 in April 2024. The 12.5kg cylinder skyrocketed by 29.61% over the same period, up from N15,637.74 in April 2024.

The NBS report revealed that Rivers State recorded the highest average retail price for refilling a 5kg cylinder in April 2025 at N9,103.82, followed closely by Ebonyi (N8,867.24) and Akwa Ibom (N8,655.59). On the flip side, the lowest prices were found in Niger (N7,006.15), Plateau (N7,014.87), and Kebbi (N7,032.11).
