Electricity: Metered Consumers Decline 0.21% to 5.9m

The total number of metered customers declined by 0.21 percent, month-on-month, MoM to 5.977 million in May 2024 from 5.990 million recorded in April.

Similarly, the total number of electricity registered customers declined by 1.81 per cent MoM to 13.1 million in May 2024 from 13.4 million recorded in April 2024.

This was contained in the latest data report released by the National Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, titled “Metering and Customer Service Standards.”

The report stated that the total number of metered customers by the eleven electricity distribution companies, DISCOs, declined by 63.2 percent to 8,733 customers in May 2024 from 23,724 customers recorded in April.

The report gave a breakdown of DISCOs with the highest number of metered customers for May 2024, which showed that Ikeja Electric, Aba Power, Jos electricity distribution company, Yola and Enugu ranked the highest with 2,576, 1,398, 1,189, 964 and 788 metered customers respectively.

However, according to the NERC data report, Abuja electricity distribution company Kano, Eko, Benin, Port Harcourt, Kaduna, and Ibadan emerged with the lowest number of metered customers: 22, 144, 171, 237, 288, 390, and 566, respectively.
