Local Bourse Closes Week on a Bearish Note

In today’s session, the NGX slipped by 0.09%, driven by selloffs in FIRSTHOLDCO (-5.84%), TRANSCORP (-8.23%), and FIDELITYBK (-9.86%), which outweighed buying interest in MANSARD (+9.94%), NAHCO (+4.00%), and WEMA (+7.09%). Despite the index decline, market capitalisation advanced by N184.12bn.

Trading activity softened, with turnover declining relative to the prior session as transaction value fell by 2.51%. In total, 687.39m shares valued at N14.98bn were exchanged across 41,553 deals. VERITASKAP (+9.87%) led the volume chart with 144.62m units traded, while ARADEL (+0.00%) topped the value chart with transactions worth N2.31bn.

Market breadth closed positive at 1.06x, as advancers marginally outpaced decliners. ABBEYBDS (+9.94%) led the thirty-four gainers on the leaderboard, while LEARNAFRICA (-10.00%) topped the thirty-two laggards.

NGX Summary

The local bourse closed the week on a bearish note, with the All-Share Index edging down by 0.09% w/w to 165,370.40 points. Gains recorded in WEMA (+3.08% w/w), NB (+2.34% w/w), and UBA (+0.91% w/w) were insufficient to offset losses in FIRSTHOLDCO (-8.16% w/w), HONYFLOUR (-3.70% w/w), and MTNN (-1.38% w/w), which dragged overall market performance.

As a result, the year-to-date return moderated slightly to 6.27% from 6.36% in the previous week, while market capitalisation increased by N193.81bn w/w to N106.15trn.

NASD Summary

The NASD market closed on a bullish note, as the NASD Securities Index and market capitalisation advanced by 0.20% to settle at 3,630.11 points and N2.17trn, respectively. On a week-on-week basis, the NASD OTC market contracted by 0.25%.

Market activity weakened significantly, with transaction volume and value plunging by 85.57% and 77.19%, respectively, indicating subdued investor participation despite the session’s positive close.

On the performance board, SDOKITIPUPA (+6.69%) led the gainers, while SDGEFLUID (-10.43%) topped the decliners’ chart for the session.
