Stakeholders Back National Single Window to Transform Trade Operations

Launched in April 2024 by President Bola Tinubu, Nigeria’s National Single Window (NSW) project marks a major digital trade reform aimed at simplifying import, export, and transit processes.

With full rollout set for March 2026, the initiative promises to cut costs, boost transparency, and modernise Nigeria’s trade ecosystem.

The National Single Window project, a signature digital trade facilitation reform, is intended to simplify, unify, and speed up import, export, and transit operations across the country.

The government has set a firm target that NSW should become fully operational by the first quarter of 2026, precisely in March 2026.

The NSW is more than a software platform; it is an infrastructural reform, touching on regulation, customs, port operations, trade logistics, revenue collection, and Nigeria’s position in regional and global trade.

If successful, this initiative could address long‑standing complaints from businesses, delays, regulatory bottlenecks, duplication of process, opacity, high costs, and revenue leakage.

A single window (sometimes called a trade single window) is a one‑stop digital platform through which traders can meet all regulatory requirements for cross‑border trade: filing documents, obtaining permits, paying duties, inspections, certifications, licensing, etc.
