The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has raised the alarm over the recurring incidents of vandalism and said it is threatening the sustainability of electricity supply across the country.
The General Manager, Kaduna Region, Nasir Mansur S. Fada while speaking at a stakeholders engagement in Kaduna on Danger of Encroachment and Vandalism in a renewed effort to safeguard critical power infrastructure and ensure public safety, noted that the company is overwhelmed with incidences of vandalisation in the country and called for strengthened collaboration with other agencies to address the menace.
He said the sensitisation aimed at enlightening host communities on the dangers of building under transmission lines and the increasing threat of vandalisation also highlighted the importance of community support in achieving uninterrupted power supply.
He revealed that new transformers have been installed in several locations, and numerous expansion and upgrade projects are currently ongoing. However, he stressed that these efforts can only succeed if host communities actively support the protection of power installations.
