The global stock selloff worsened in Asia, with Japan’s benchmark dropping the most in more than a year, on concern the US will tighten regulations on the artificial intelligence industry after Democrats’ decisive election win.

The MSCI Asia Pacific Index tumbled 3.8%, with Japan’s Nikkei 225 Stock Average sliding 6%, set for its biggest one-day loss since April 2025.

South Korea’s Kospi Index dropped as much as 8.8%, triggering a circuit breaker, with Samsung Electronics Co. and SK Hynix Inc. both losing more than 5%. Taiwan’s key index fell 4%, weighed down by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.

The regional gauge pared some of its losses due to a recovery in US stock futures and reports of market-supporting measures in South Korea and Taiwan. Futures contracts on the Nasdaq 100 Index gained 1%.
